This week we were invited to an preview screening of Sam Mendes World War One Drama, 1917. We can’t say too much about the film technically outcome of the film is amazing.
Ahead of the release of the film, Entertainment One have released an extensive 12 minute Featurette. In this promo it gives you an insight into how they constructed scenes in the film. The film was shot by Oscar winning DoP Roger Deakins shot predominately in one shot. You’ll see they have limited time to set things up and get things right, meaning they have walk out the scene. The production team use models of the whole set to figure out things, amazing to see the details. Sam Mendes also shares his thoughts, inspiration on the film too…

At the height of the First World War, two young British soldiers, Schofield (Captain Fantastic’s George MacKay) and Blake (Game of Thrones’ Dean-Charles Chapman) are given a seemingly impossible mission. In a race against time, they must cross enemy territory and deliver a message that will stop a deadly attack on hundreds of soldiers— Blake’s own brother among them.
1917 is directed by Sam Mendes, who wrote the screenplay with Krysty Wilson-Cairns (Showtime’s Penny Dreadful). The film is produced by Mendes and Pippa Harris (Revolutionary Road, Away We Go) for their Neal Street Productions, Jayne-Ann Tenggren (associate producer, Spectre), Callum McDougall (executive producer, Mary Poppins Returns, Skyfall) and Brian Oliver (Rocketman, Black Swan).
A cast of many including Benedict Cumberbatch, Mark Strong, Richard Madden, Colin Firth, Andrew Scott, Daniel Mays, Adrian Scarborough, Jamie Parker, Nabhaan Rizwan and Claire Duburcq.
