Warner Bros. announce Owen Wilson, Jude Law, Penélope Cruz and others for upcoming Nancy Meyers film
ComingSoon.net has confirmed that Warner Bros. Pictures has released further confirmation on the ensemble cast for The Holiday director Nancy Meyers’ upcoming film.
The company rescued the project in October last year after Netflix dropped it due to budget issues, as the director reportedly asked for $20 million more than Netflix’s final offer of $130 million. Following talks of Marvel powerhouse Scarlett Johansson and X-Men star Michael Fassbender appearing in the film, the current cast is set to include Zoolander star Owen Wilson, Jude Law, who has previously appeared in Meyers’ festive classic The Holiday, Open Your Eyes’ Penélope Cruz, Succession star Kieran Culkin and Netflix actor Emma Mackey.
A Christmas Day release has been pencilled in for next year. This film will see Meyers return to the director’s chair after 2015’s The Intern, a signature style drama-comedy blend-up starring Robert de Niro and Anne Hathaway as an unlikely work duo. Meyers is one of the quintessential names to the light-hearted, ‘comfort’, cosy film style, with previous releases such as The Parent Trap, Something’s Gotta Give, The Holiday, and 2009’s It’s Complicated.
A previously made synopsis for Nancy Meyers’ upcoming feature reads as follows: “The film follows a talented young writer-director who falls in love with a producer, with the pair making several successful films before calling it quits romantically and professionally. The two are forced back together, however, when a great new project arises, and they find themselves teamed up again and having to deal with high stakes and volatile stars.”
However, outlets have reported that the plot outline may be incorrect, but the project is set to begin production in Los Angeles in the upcoming months.
