According to Deadline, Sony Pictures has bought the rights to Penthouse, a thriller from Drew Pearce and Tom Holland.
There are limited details about the plot at this stage, but we do know that Pearce (The Thomas Crown Affair, The Fall Guy, Iron Man 3) will be writing the script and that Holland (alongside Harry Holland and Will South, his Billy17 partners) will play an important role in its development. Penthouse going to Sony continues the strong relationship between the studios and Holland following the record-breaking success of Spider-Man: Brand New Day.ย The film currently has a gross of more than $2 billion and has broken numerous records whilst exceeding all expectations for the film. He is also due to appear in their upcoming film about Fred Astaire alongside Margaret Qualley as Adele Astaire, Sabrina Carpenter as Ginger Rogers, and Talia Ryder as June Allyson.
Earlier in the year, Holland shared his ambitions to “try and do Fred proud”, telling Good Morning America “, What I love about my job is the challenges,โ and his plans to increase his focus: “We have Fred Astaire next; that’s what weโre planning on doing. And as soon as I finish with these tours, Iโm diving back into the dance studioโ. He added that he has โa desire to use no doubles, to do all of the dancing, to shoot those dances in one shot โ how [Astaire] would have done it.โ This will undoubtedly add a huge level of work ethic and authenticity to the role, hopefully bringing an ambitious yet thrilling biopic to the screen.
