Toast To G-Men With Your Gangster Squad Style Cocktails

With 4 days to go until Ruben Fleischer’s Gangster Squad arrives in UK &Irish cinemas why not toast to the G-Men with a selection of  thirst quenching cocktails from the late 1940’s early 1950’s. Fancy drinking a Dirty Shirley a drink enjoyed by Ryan Gosling’s character or down an old fashioned? Whatever you desire below is what you need as well as the basic recipe to make sure after enjoy a few hours at your local cinema watching Gangster Squad you can chill out to stylish new tipple!

Gangster Squad is based on Paul Lieberman’s book set in 1949 the film stars Josh Brolin a former cop who returns from military service in World War 2  and goes to Los Angeles to lead a Police task force to take on the organised crime creeping into LA from East coast lead by mobster linchpin Mickey Cohen (Sean Penn).

Gangster Squad is due out 10th January 2013 and stars Ryan Gosling, Josh Brolin, Sean Penn, Josh Brolin, Emma Stone,Michael Peña,Ryan Gosling, Robert Patrick , Anthony Mackie and Nick Nolte.

• 1 1/2 oz cognac
• 1 oz orange liqueur
• 1/2 oz lemon juice
• 1 lemon wedge

Moisten the rim of a chilled cocktail glass with the lemon wedge. Dip the rim in sugar. Shake ingredients together with ice, pour and serve.

• 1 oz vodka
• 5-6 oz ginger ale
• 1 dash grenadine syrup
• 1 maraschino cherry

Pour vodka over ice in a highball glass. Fill the rest of the way with ginger ale. Add grenadine, garnish with a cherry, and serve.

 

champagneChampagne Cocktail

• 3 oz champagne
• 2-3 dashes Angostura bitters
• 1 sugar cube

Soak sugar cube in a glass with bitters until it dissolves. Add champagne.

 

 

orange-blossomOrange Blossom

• 1 1/2 oz dry gin
• 1 1/2 oz orange juice

Combine the gin and orange juice in a shaker with ice. Shake well, and strain into a cocktail glass.

 

 

old-fashionedOld Fashioned

• 2 oz bourbon whiskey
• 2 dashes Angostura bitters
• 1 splash water
• 1 sugar cube
• 1 lemon peel

Place sugar cube in an Old Fashioned glass. Wet it down with the water and bitters, then muddle into a paste. Rotate the glass so that the sugar grains and bitters leave a lining. Add a large ice cube. Pour in bourbon, and stir. Garnish with a lemon peel.

• 2 oz rye whiskey
• 1/2 oz sweet vermouth
• 2-3 dashes Angostura bitters
• Maraschino cherry for garnish

Fill a glass with ice. Add the whiskey, vermouth and bitters, and stir to chill. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with the cherry.
