Theo James Battles a Bloodthirsty Baboon in The Monkey First Trailer

A cheeky Monkey in The Monkey by Osgood Perkins

Longlegs director Osgood Perkins is back with a new horror flick   via Black Bear  ( and Neon in the U.S), as fans get the first trailer for his upcoming adaptation of The Monkey today.

Based on the 1980 Stephen King short story, actor Theo James (The White Lotus) plays brothers Hal and Bill. In the trailer, the former finds himself reunited with an eerie-looking toy monkey after finding it in a locked room. Hal is talking to a realtor, asking her if she remembered his aunt selling it in a yard sale. “Oh, not a cherished childhood memory now,” the realtor responds.

The twist? Hal and his twin brother tried to destroy the object several times throughout childhood because the toy likes to murder people by banging on its drum. After the realtor opens the door, she meets an untimely end, as Hal winds up splattered in blood.

The coroner said it was an accident, but, it was no accident,” he says in the voiceover.

There will be no shortage of gore as the toy monkey opts for what looks to be some brutal killing methods — and that’s just what’s in the trailer.

Tatiana Maslany plays Hal/Bill’s mother. Elijah Wood, Christian Convery, Colin O’Brian, Rohan Campbell, and Sarah Levy round out the cast.

When twin brothers find a mysterious wind-up monkey, a series of outrageous deaths tear their family apart. Twenty-five years later, the monkey begins a new killing spree forcing the estranged brothers to confront the cursed toy.

The Monkey is set to hit cinemas in the UK, Ireland and the US  on 21st February
