‘The Social Network’ Sequel: Mikey Madison and Jeremy Allen White eyed for lead roles
The long-awaited sequel to the 2010 film The Social Network – aptly titled The Social Network II – has reportedly secured its leads, with Oscar winner Mikey Madison and Emmy winner Jeremy Allen White rumoured to be joining the Aaron Sorkin-led project. The news was broken by Deadline, whose sources have insisted that no formal offers have yet been given but that these two are the clear frontrunners for the roles.
The original film followed the story of Mark Zuckerberg and the early stages of Facebook. It was hugely successful amongst audiences, earning over $200 million at the global box office and receiving eight Oscar nominations (winning three). The sequel aims to follow up on the original by focusing on the story behind The Facebook Files (an explosive series of articles published in October 2021 by Jeff Horowitz in The Wall Street Journal) which exposed the inner workings of the company.
If this casting were to be confirmed, the leads for The Social Network II would be Madison as Frances Haugen, the whistleblower who disclosed Facebook’s documents in 2021 and Allen White as Jeff Horowitz, the reporter who led the breaking of the Facebook files.
It would also be Madison’s first major studio role since her award-winning performance in Anora. In contrast, Allen White is hoping for award success in the upcoming biopic Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere. There are not many other details at this stage outside of the original announcement that Aaron Sorkin was to write and direct the film, where he would work alongside Todd Black, Peter Rice, and Stuart Besser to produce.
