The Outlandish Bacurau Coming Getting Home Release

One of the highlights of this year’s Glasgow Film Festival was Bacurau. The critically acclaimed 2019 Cannes Film Festival Jury Prize is getting a home Entertainment release in the UK. Curated global streaming service and theatrical film distributor MUBI have  announced  the Home release will see the film be  available digitally on MUBI TVOD, Amazon TVOD/EST, iTunes EST/TVOD from 18 April and to own on DVD & Blu-ray on 27 April 2020. 

With unforgettable performances from Bárbara Colen, Udo Kier and Sonia Braga, this is an audacious, original and spectacularly violent blend of neo-Western, revenge thriller and political allegory. Tipping its hat to Sergio Leone and John Carpenter, it’s a whirlwind of genre twists and surrealist turns guaranteed to leave you punch-drunk and reeling.

Throw in a big  slice of  Alejandro Jodorowsky surrealism, politics and plenty of violence, that will have John Carpenter fans loving every moment. Described as Neo Spaghetti Western, this is one you just have to buckle in and enjoy the ride!

Following the critically-acclaimed Neighbouring Sounds and Aquarius, Kleber Mendonça Filho shares directorial credit with long-time collaborator Juliano Dornelles in this uniquely hallucinatory and satirical parable.

Bacurau, a small settlement in Brazil’s remote backcountry, is shaken by the death of its elderly matriarch. But something strange is happening in the village, and there’s little time for mourning. The water supply has been cut off, animals are stampeding through the streets, and empty coffins are turning up on the roadside. One morning, the villagers wake up to find their home has disappeared from satellite maps completely. Under threat from an unknown enemy, Bacurau braces itself for a bloody, brutal fight for survival.
