The Kings Speech & The Fighter Come Out Tops in 2011 SAG Awards

Last Night The Screen Actors Guild 2011 awards where held last night. The SAG’s are what you could say are the closest America has to our BAFTA’s but it is also the only awards where  actor’s actually vote for there fellow professionals which you know in any competitive business its the highest mark of respect for the work you have just done.

Alot of the big names came out in force last night for the awards James Franco, Nicole Kidman, Jeff Bridges, Natalie Portman, Andrew Garfield and Helen Boham Carter.

The big winners on the film front where The Kings Speech & The Fighter both winning 2 awards a piece with Colin Firth picking up best actor and the movie in general for best ensembled cast. The Fighter picked the best supporting actor & actress in Christan Bale and Melissa Leo, after watching The Kings Speech I would say Geoffrey Rush was fantastic but ill assume he’ll pick the best supporting actor at The Oscars, possibly the BAFTA’s too. The highlight of the night was Natalie Portman now showing her nice bump picked up the best actress award (for Black Swan)thanking her parents for bringing her up to “never Be an asshole!”

Little disappointed that The Social Network never picked up anything along 127 hours though the movie wasnt the best in the world, James Franco was very good at his part, hopefully with the remaining  awards ceremonies they may pick up something.

On the televison front  Broadwalk Empire (shown soon on Sky Atlantic channel in February) was a big winner with best ensembled cast and Steve Buscemi picking up best actor, with Julian Margulies picking up best female in Good Wife (channel 4 in uk). Modern Family(Sky one) picked up best ensembled cast for a comedy, with Alec Baldwin scooping the best comedy actor (30 Rock, Channel 5) and Betty White the best comedy female withHot in Cleveland. The other tv awards where Al Pacino best actor in tv mini series with Dont Know Jack (Sky Atlantic), with Claire Danes best female with Temple Grandin (Sky Atlantic).
