Eddie the Eagle follows the realisation of the childhood dream of Michael Edwards (a.k.a Eddie), and his unflinching determination to become Great Britain’s first Olympic ski-jumper. Reluctantly aided by former ski-jumper Bronson Peary as his coach, Eddie is unwavering in his quest to reach the 1988 Calgary Winter Games. Eddie the Eagle is an uplifting, inspirational story that celebrates human spirit, passion, and one man’s refusal to accept defeat.

How true to the core this film is, it’s hard to tell but for the sake of Hollywood there will be a great degree of the film not accurate, created to be entertaining. You do feel this will be seen as the 21st Century version of Cool Runnings another film based on unexpected Jamaican bobsleigh  winners ironically at the same 1988 Winter Olympics.  Whilst the warmth reception by not just the British public  but many folks around the world Eddie received , the direction of the film is going the funny route. It could have easily have taken a serious route but that’s not a negative but one of positive, sign at how diverse our hero’s story was.It’s one that looks enjoyable, that enjoyable the message of the film is not of winning but one of involvement and been recognized for your efforts, even if that means your terrible and last.

Taron Egerton (Kingsman: The Secret Service) stars as Eddie with Hugh Jackman (Wolverine) as his coach Bronson Peary, Christopher Walken also stars. The film is directed by Dexter Fletcher (Sunshine on Leith) and produced by Matthew Vaughn (Kingsman: The Secret Service).

Eddie The Eagle will land in UK&Ireland on 1st April 2016 (USA 26th February).
