Tessa Thompson Leads Nia DaCosta’s Hedda In First Trailer
Amazon MGM Studios has released the first trailer for their hugely anticipated drama Hedda, which you can watch below!
From writer/director Nia DaCosta comes a provocative, modern reimagining of Henrik Ibsen’s classic play. HEDDA (Tessa Thompson, Creed III, Passing) finds herself torn between the lingering ache of a past love and the quiet suffocation of her present life. Over the course of one charged night, long-repressed desires and hidden tensions erupt—pulling her and everyone around her into a spiral of manipulation, passion, and betrayal.
Alongside Thompson stars Imogen Poots (Vivarium), Tom Bateman (Death on the Nile), Nicholas Pinnock (Long Bright River) and Nina Hoss (Tár).
DaCosta has been busy through 2025, with the filmmaker also helming the second of the new 28 Years Later films, called 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, which is due for release in January 2026. Hedda marks the second time DaCosta and Thompson had worked together, after 2018’s Little Woods. Previously, DaCosta directed The Marvels and Candyman.

The film is scheduled to premiere at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival on September 7th, 2025 and then play at the 2025 London Film Festival in October.
It’s set for release in select cinemas on October 22nd, before streaming on Amazon Prime Video on October 29th.
