Black Bear has released the first trailer for their upcoming boxing biopic Christy, which you can watch below!

The film stars Sydney Sweeney as groundbreaking boxer Christy Martin and follows her journey to becoming a star female boxer in the 1980s. David Michôd, director of The King, The Rover and War Machine, helms the biopic.

The pic also stars Ben Foster, Merritt Wever, Katy O’Brian, Ethan Embry, Jess Gabor, Chad Coleman, Bryan Hibbard, Tony Cavalero and Gilbert Cruz. Michôd co-penned the script with Mirrah Foulkes based on a story by Katherine Fugate. The film will make its European Premiere at the 2025 BFI London Film Festival next month.

Directed by David Michôd (Animal Kingdom, The King, The Rover), Christy tells the remarkable true story of Christy Martin, a small-town woman who became one of boxing’s most trailblazing and controversial figures. The film had its world premiere at TIFF on September 5 and will premiere in the UK at the 69th BFI London Film Festival, as a Headline Gala, on October 17, ahead of its release in UK and Irish cinemas.

Christy Martin (Sydney Sweeney) never imagined life beyond her small-town roots in West Virginia—until she discovered a knack for punching people. Fueled by grit, raw determination, and an unshakable desire to win, she charges into the world of boxing under the guidance of her trainer and manager-turned-husband, Jim (Ben Foster).

But while Christy flaunts a fiery persona in the ring, her toughest battles unfold outside it—confronting family, identity, and a relationship that just might become life-or-death. Based on remarkable true events, Christy Martin’s story is one of resilience, courage, and the fight to reclaim one’s life.
