Sydney Sweeney Set To Star In Gundam Live-Action Film

The live-action Gundam film seems to have found its first star in the form of Anyone But You star Sydney Sweeney, who is reportedly in talks to star suggests Deadline and The InSneider.
No word on who Sweeney will play, but the film is set up at Legendary Pictures in a co-production with franchise owners Bandai Namco Filmworks and is starting to come together. Sweet Tooth showrunner Jim Mickle is directing the film and has also written the script.
Deadline says on Gundam: The pioneer of the sci-fi subgenre known as “mecha,” revolving around giant fighting robots, Gundam is a long-running multimedia franchise which kicked off with anime series Mobile Suit Gundam in 1979. Legendary Entertainment announced its development of a Gundam film in the spring of 2021, with Jordan Vogt-Roberts (Kong: Skull Island) initially eyed to direct but it is now Mickle who has taken over. Created by Yoshiyuki Tomino, the franchise generates over $600 million annually, including with the sale of plenty of merchandise. Mickle’s feature adaptation of Gundam will be the first in live-action.
Sweeney is soon to be seen in Ron Howard’s Eden opposite Ana de Armas, Vanessa Kirby, and Jude Law, The Housemaid, based on the hit novel alongside Amanda Seyfried and directed by Paul Feig, as well as the third season of Euphoria. She also stars as legendary boxer Christy Martin in a biopic of her life due this year, directed by David Michôd (The King).
She is also set to star as legendary actress Kim Novak alongside David Jonsson as Sammy Davis Jnr is Scandalous!, the feature directorial debut of Oscar Nominee Colman Domingo; and set for the new The Masque of the Red Death for A24.
