Superhumans (Midnight Special Feature)

MIDNIGHT SPECIAL

To celebrate the home entertainment release of Midnight Special which releases on Blu-ray & DVD on 8th August, we’ve researched into some of the most fascinating modern day, real life super humans around the world that are often forgotten or unheard of.

Sci-Fi films have a tendency to cause the brain to wonder about the things in the world we cannot yet fully understand – as voyeurs we are watching but not completely understanding the reality of the characters and their supernatural natures. Left curious, we ponder the things which shock and amaze us most, such as the possibilities of superhuman powers.

Baba Vanga
Baba Vanga
Baba Vanga, born in 1911, was a well-known Bulgarian Prophetess most famous for her incredibly accurate predictions. Vanga became blind at the age of 12 and by the age of 18 she began hearing voices, having visions, and making predictions. Through a study conducted by a parapsychologist it was determined that out of the 7,000 people to whom she had given predictions, 80% received 100% accurate predictions.

Some of her most significant and accurate predictions were: the beginning of WWII and the consequences, the breakup of Czechoslovakia, the war in Nicaragua (1979), the break-up of the Soviet Union, the union of east and west Germany, the nuclear disaster in Chernobyl (Ukraine), the date when Stalin died, the USA attacks on September 11th, 2001, the 44th US president will be black, the conflicts in Syria, and many more.

Before Baba Vanga passed away in 1966, she made many more predictions for the future still to come up to 2050.

Ingo Swann
Ingo SwannIngo Swann was born in 1933 and is best known for his personal abilities involving remote viewing. Ingo possesses the supernatural ability to act as a form of human telescope. He is able to project his consciousness elsewhere with extreme accuracy in order to describe locations up to several 100 thousand miles away. Ingo identified the exact rings around Jupiter and the existence of water on Mars without the assistance of even a telescope prior to Nasa making these discoveries, which occurred decades later.

Ingo Swann is not the only human gifted with the powers of remote viewing. Others have reportedly been able to perfectly describe never before seen objects located in a separate room. Rumour has it that remote viewing has been and continues to be studied and utilized by government agencies.

Wim Hof
wim hofWim Hof, born in 1959, is able to remain submerged in ice for 1 hour and 53 minutes without his core body temperature changing earning him the nickname, ‘The Ice Man’. Hof’s superhuman achievements also include climbing Mount Everest wearing just a pair of shorts while resisting altitude sickness, completing a marathon in the Namib Desert without any water, running a ½ marathon barefoot above the Arctic Circle (also wearing only shorts), officially swimming under ice for 66 meters with one breath, and setting 21 Guinness World Records.

It has been proven through scientific tests that Hof is able to influence his autonomic nervous system, immune system, and his adrenaline which are meant to be out of a person’s own control. Wim Hof accredits his super powers to a combination of meditation, focus, and breathing.

Himalayan Monks
Monks
Although Himalayan Monks have existed for many years, 1980 was the year Harvard Professor Herbert Benson first studied their incredible talents. While visiting the Monks Benson marvelled at their ability to significantly raise the temperatures in their fingers and toes by 17 degrees Celsius. He also observed the Monks drying cold wet sheets using the heat of their bodies alone.

These Monks are also able to lower their metabolic rate by an astounding 64%. Through extreme meditation they can dramatically increase their neuroplasticity and alter the structure and function of their brains.

Paul The Octopus
Paul
Although Paul is not human, he possessed special super powers which gained him world-wide recognition and earned him a well-deserved spot on the list. Paul was a special octopus born in 2008 famous for his World Cup football predictions and super strength. Although Paul only weighed 300 grams he was able to raise aquarium decorations weighing up to 10 kilograms. However Paul’s most distinctive was his predictions.

Paul would be given 2 boxes and each box contained a muscle. The muscles were each adorned with a flag of one of the two competing countries. During the 2010 World Cup, Paul chose the muscle representing the correct country to win for 7/7 of Germany’s games.
