Sundance Film Festival London Taking Place In August! Online

Sundance Film Festival London will now take place this year, but online. Taking place in August but it will be shorter too.

Due to Sundance Film Festival: London’s postponement due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Sundance Institute and Picturehouse Cinemas have collaborated once again to ensure that they are still able to bring some of the best of the 2020 Sundance Film Festival to UK audiences digitally.

The festival will be a present three feature films from this year’s Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, U.S.A. Each film will be an UK Premiere and like any previous festival will have Q&A’s after each film, taking place over the weekend of 7th until 9th August.

This year’s festival will open with Uncle Frank, which is directed, written and produced by Alan Ball (American Beauty, True Blood) and stars Paul Bettany. Luxor, directed by Zeina Durra (The Imperialists Are Live) and starring Andrea Riseborough will premiere on Saturday. The event will close on Sunday with Boys State, directed by Jesse Moss and Amanda McBaine and winner of the U.S. Grand Jury Prize: Documentary at the 2020 Festival.

Festival passholders will be able to enjoy access to a short film programme, which includes the UK premiere of 8 short films which highlight filmmaking’s most original voices.

Uncle Frank (Director/Screenwriter: Alan Ball) – UK premiere

In 1973, Frank Bledsoe and his 18-year-old niece Beth take a road trip from Manhattan to Creekville, South Carolina, for the family patriarch’s funeral and are unexpectedly joined by Frank’s lover, Walid.

Luxor (Director: Zeina Durra) UK premiere

When British aid worker Hana returns to the ancient city of Luxor, she comes across Sultan, a talented archaeologist and former lover. As she wanders, haunted by the familiar place, she struggles to reconcile the choices of the past with the uncertainty of the present.

Boys State (Director: Jesse Moss, Amanda McBaine) Documentary UK premiere

A political coming-of-age story, Boys State is a raucous journey into the heart of American democracy through an annual rite of passage in which a thousand teenage boys from across Texas come together to build a representative government from the ground up.
