Studio Ghibli’s Earwig And The Witch Gets A Funky UK Trailer

Two words that get us and many more people world wide excited are Studio Ghibli. Pulses rose late last year news broke Earwig And The Witch would mark their return of the animation giant. Today things get even more exciting as Elysian Film Group unveil a very funky UK Trailer, more importantly a release date!

The film is based on the children’s novel of the same name by Diana Wynne Jones (Howl’s Moving Castle) as well as Studio Ghibli’s first ever 3D CGI animated feature. Even the world renowned animation studios need to expand or embrace the latest technology, the burning question does it have all the magic we expect from the icon studio? Hopefully and that task goes to Goro Miyazaki (Tales From Earthsea, From Upon Poppy Hill).

A story about an young orphaned girl called Earwig who is unaware of her magical powers. Her life takes a drastic turn when she’s adopted by an mysterious couple who introduce her to world of monsters and magic.

Growing up in an orphanage in the British countryside, Earwig has no idea that her mother had magical powers. Her life changes dramatically when a strange couple takes her in, and she is forced to live with a selfish witch. As the headstrong young girl sets out to uncover the secrets of her new guardians, she discovers a world of spells and potions, and a mysterious song that may be the key to finding the family she has always wanted.

The English language dub version of the film will feature the voices of Richard E. Grant (Gosford Park, Can You Ever Forgive Me?), Kacey Musgraves (Golden Hour, Same Trailer Different Park) and Dan Stevens  (Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga, FX’s Legion),  and introducing Taylor Paige Henderson as Earwig. Hopefully Elysian Film Group will be able to release a subtitled version of the film too keeping in tradition with other Studio Ghibli films.

Earwig And The Witch is set for UK and Irish cinema release from 28th May.
