Stockard Channing & Dianne Wiest Back For Practical Magic 2

Deadline is reporting that Oscar Winner Dianne Wiest and Oscar Nominee Stockard Channing have officially signed on to return for Practical Magic 2.

The long-awaited sequel to 1998’s witchy romantic film will see Wiest and Channing reprise their roles as Aunt Jet and Aunt Franny alongside the already confirmed returns of Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman. Jet and Franny are “the eccentric and wise matriarchs who took in witch sisters Sally (Bullock) and Gillian Owens (Kidman) following the death of their parents and taught them everything they know about magic, mischief, and self-reliance.”

The sequel’s production is underway, and, as well as the returning cast, Deadline also reports that Lee Pace (Foundation), Maisie Williams (The New Look), Xolo Maridueña (Blue Beetle), and Solly McLeod (The Dead Don’t Hurt) are joining the cast.

Joey King (Bullet Train) is also in talks to play Sally’s daughter, but not been confirmed just yet. Susanne Bier (The Perfect Couple) is directing the sequel with original screenwriter Akiva Goldsman returning to write the script with Succession writer Georgia Pritchett.

In a statement on the news, the Practical Magic filmmaking team said, “Twenty-five years ago, Sally, Gillian, Aunt Jet and Aunt Franny flew off the pages of Alice Hoffman’s beloved novel and into theaters around the world, and we are thrilled to bring the Owens family back to the big screen with Joey, Lee, Maisie, Solly and Xolo joining the next chapter in our story. The enduring affection for these characters has been our inspiration to deliver the next installment in the Owens’ story to new fans, and those who’ve been with us since the beginning.”

The original film grossed over $68M worldwide on its release in 1998 and became a huge hit on video and DVD, and its popularity has only grown in the decades since.

Practical Magic 2 is set for release on September 18th, 2026.
