STAR TREK Sequel Coming To Cinema Near You May 2013 in 3D

If your a fan of science fiction 2013 looks a good year for you with The Enders Game, Roland Emmerich’s Singularity and now the much awaited sequel to the successful 2009 Star Trek reboot! May 17th 2013 is the date been set for the sequel which has pushed back Emmerich’s film to a November 1st 2013 release date plus Star Trek 2  is also going to be in 3D according Deadline .

It’s ironic JJ Abram’s has been very vocal against 3D films been created  suggesting possibly Paramount Pictures have done alot of explaining of the ‘positives’ for 3D or simply he was pushed however even at this stage the director hasn’t officially committed himself to the project yet. Earlier this year this is what Abrams had to say about 3D “I have nothing against 3-D in theory. But I’ve also never run to the movies because something’s in 3-D.(As for Trek), as soon as I read the script, if it says, ‘Somebody pushes a weapon toward the camera in a menacing way,’ and we think, ‘That’d be better in 3-D!’… I dunno.”

It does like Star Trek will be filmed entirely in 3D instead of the poor post conversion that many films have been opting for  which is only good news for 3D Purists even with Abrams reservations that his kinetic ‘whip pan’ style shooting very hard to recreate in 3D. I wonder if  a certain Martin Scorsese’s Hugo could be possible factor in changing Abram’s mind, as Scorsese himself was like Abrams and now the talk is Hugo has some the best 3D scene’s ever seen in 3d film ?

In other Star Trek news in the past few days is the early talks are in place to bring onboard Benico Del Toro as a possible unamed villain any bets on Khan? originally played by Ricardo Montalban who was a latino actor like Del Toro? Abram’s has stated he has wanted to work with the actor for a while and if he comes onboard certainly a step up from Eric Bana, one thing we do know Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto and Zoe Saldana are onboard.

Final piece of news is for the score fans, that  Michael Giacchino is back onboard to write the score for the second film. This was probably the only straight cut news as Giacchino has been a long time collaborator of Abrams working with him on Alias, Lost , Mission impossible and of course 2009 film.

So I do hope 3D glasses have improced by the time May 17th 2013 comes around or those tractor beams, lens flares and phases will be strong! filming for Star Trek 2 starts early 2012.
