Spider-Man: Brand New Day: Marvin Jones III to play Tombstone
Deadline has announced that it has been informed by sources that Marvin Jones III is joining the cast of the upcoming Marvel release Spider-Man: Brand New Day, reprising the role he voiced in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.ย Although reps at Marvel and Sony have yet to confirm this.
Jones joins the next live-action Spider-Man after previously voicing Tombstone in Sonyโs animated Oscar winner Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, as well as the third in the trilogy, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, which comes out next year. It’s not going to be his first experience in the live-action superhero world, as he is best known for his turn as supervillain Tobias Whale in The CWโs Black Lightning, based on characters from DC Comics. Heโll soon be seen starring opposite Emilia Clarke and Adria Arjona in Amazonโs Criminal, as well as in Jonรกs Cuarรณnโs upcoming indie Gringo Champion.
The character Tombstone first appeared in the comic Web of Spider-Man #36ย in March 1988 and is one of New Yorkโs nastiest crime bosses, as well as being a regular Spider-Man villain. He was created by writer Gerry Conway and artist Alex Saviuk and described as a hulking African-American albino with near-indestructible skin.ย
Shang-Chiโs Destin Daniel Cretton will direct Brand New Day with Amy Pascal and Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige producing. It will be the first live-action Spider-Man sinceย Spider-Man: No Way Home, which has the likes of Tom Holland and Zendaya reprising their roles.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is due to release on 31st July, 2026.
