Shia LaBeouf Explores America In American Honey UK Trailer

Whatever happens in the world people will always attempt to explore the ‘American Dream’ and the Odyssey to travel USA. In American Honey, Star (Sasha Lane), an adolescent girl from a troubled home, runs away with a traveling sales crew who drive across the American Midwest selling subscriptions door to door. Finding her feet in this gang of teenagers, one of whom is Jake (Shia LaBeouf), she soon gets into the group’s lifestyle of hard-partying nights, law-bending days, and young love.

For her first feature set and filmed in the U.S., British writer/director Andrea Arnold envisioned a story rooted in the realism and nuance of its characters and what she experienced while traveling across America. At its heart is Star, a teenage girl on the brink of adulthood who hits the road in search of independence while struggling to untangle what it feels like to fall in love.

After the controversy surrounding British filmmaker’s early departure from Jane Got A Gun, American Honey was the film that got her back on focus. It’s an experimental one with the trailer’s ratio the first evidence with the film set in a 4:3 ratio.Youthful energy, discordant and in the words of Andrea Arnold herself “a small potted version of the American dream”.

Whilst the film may have not won over every critic during it’s early film festival circuit, cinephiles have been more receptive. Runner up to Ken Loach’s I,David Blake at Cannes for Palme d’Or,though won Jury Prize she has won with Fish Tank and Red Road.All filmed in Guerrilla Style with the added bonus of a a awesome Suicide Cover ‘Dream Baby Dream’ by none other than Bruce Springsteen.

American Honey is set for an 14th October UK&Irish Cinema release, though you can catch the film at BFI 60th London Film Festival 7th,8th and 11th October [book here].The film also stars Riley Keough.
