Here in Blighty many of us can easily put our hands up and admit our nation’s history wasn’t perfect and we move on hoping we won’t make past mistakes. In Kathryn Bigelow‘s Detroit, a dark spot on American history will unfold on the big screen. A period of time that brought civil racial unrest to the nation, but it’s a story that must be told and today we get a look at the movies second UK trailer…
After five years away from the movie camera, Bigelow moves from the tension of the assassination of Osama Bin Laden to the summer of tension in 1967. John Boyega gives his lightsaber a rest to become a security guard falsely accused of the murder of a fellow policeman. This trailer really plays on on the growing tension of the race riots but most of all it plays on his character Melvin Dismukes. Who finds himself taking the flak for the actions of the police officers who killed three black men at the hotel Algiers he works at.

This is a piece of civil unrest history which may be unknown too especially here in the UK if you’re not a connoisseur of American history. This doesn’t mean we shouldn’t watch this if anything we should check this out and Bigelow along with her regular collaborator Mark Boal capturing the moment perfectly. As it looks like the movie moves back and forth from the events od the riots as well as the hotel events to Dismukes interrogation.
Everything feels very claustrophobic and if you’re in the wrong place at the wrong time there’ nowhere to run. If you’re eagle-eyed, it seems the real Melvin Dismukes makes a cameo in the trailer too!Could we be looking at potential awards glory for this movie and the crew?
Detroit now has a UK&Irish release date which is 15th August (4th August USA). The movie stars Will Poulter, Anthony Mackie, John Krasinski and Jack Reynor.
