MUBI have announced their award-winning audio-documentary series MUBI Podcast returns for its third season, starting 30th March.

Every Thursday we will get new episodes forย  the next seven weeks.ย Hosted by acclaimed arts and travel reporterย Rico Gagliano, the MUBI Podcast is a documentary-style series available on all major podcast platforms and on MUBIโ€™s digital cinema publicationย Notebook.

Season three, titledย Needle on the Record,ย dives into the unifying power of movie music andย tells the stories behind some of cinemaโ€™s most renowned โ€œneedle-dropsโ€ โ€” moments where filmmakers deployed pre-existing music instead of an original score. Each episode explores an iconic needle drop that has become part of pop culture, from the 19th-century waltz that launchedย Stanley Kubrickโ€™sย  2001: A Space Odysseyย into orbit, to the โ€˜80s cover song thatย Donnie Darkoย sent to the top of the UK charts. This series is a six-episode mixtape for film lovers.ย The new season will also be accompanied by a special bonus episode featuringย Lukas Dhontย discussing his Oscar-nominated featureย Close.

In addition to Dhont, this seasonโ€™sย guests include filmmakerย Richard Kellyย (Donnie Darko), actorย Jena Maloneย (Donnie Darko, The Hunger Games), music supervisorย Randall Posterย (The Wolf of Wall Street), musiciansย Noel Hoganย (of The Cranberries) andย Paul Douglasย (of Toots and the Maytals), and more.
