Scrubs Gets Cast Shake Up Ahead of Season 2

The revival of beloved sitcom Scrubs has announced its cast going into its second season (or 11th if you include the original), and it’s a bit of an interesting shake-up from the first. Don’t worry, though; the core trio of Zach Braff (John “J.D.” Dorian), Donald Faison (Christopher “Turk” Turk), and Sarah Chalke (Elliot Reid) are all returning as series regulars.

The changes instead belong to some of the other characters, with both old and new characters getting a change in screen time. Neil Flynn, known for playing The Janitor in the original version of the show, has been promoted to an expanded role. Rachel Bilson, who hit it off with J.D in the Season Finale, is returning for a multi-episode arc. It’s widely believed that her character will play a part in the latest version of ‘will they, won’t they‘ between J.D and his long-term on-and-off love interest Elliot.

John C. McGinley (Dr Cox), Judy Reyes (Carla) and Christa Miller (Jordan) will also appear as guest stars throughout the season once more.

Also back as recurring are Scrubs original Robert Maschio, reprising his role as The Todd, Vanessa Bayer as HR head Sibby, Michael James Scott as the sassy charge nurse Dubois, as well as the newest set of interns (although Ava Bunn has been promoted to series regular).

Interestingly, some of the breakout stars aren’t returning, with X Mayo, who played Raymond alongside Michael James Scott’s Dubois, not returning and also leaving the show is J.D’s main rival from the first season, Dr Kevin Park (Joel Kim Booster). It’s not clear at this stage why that is, but it will be intriguing to see how the show covers the changes, especially after Dr Park played such a prominent role as the lead antagonist.

It’s also unclear at this stage if Darcy Michael is returning as the hospital’s Maintenance Guy after the hilarious reveal in the finale of the first season.
