Don’t expect to see a solo Deadpool film anytime soon, as Ryan Reynolds revealed on Sunday TODAY with Willie Guest that he is done with playing the character in a solo movie, stating, “I have some stuff kind of written, but I don’t think I’m going to centre him again. I think he’s a supporting character, you know? He’s a guy who is great in a group.”

The news follows the success of Deadpool & Wolverine, which earned $1.338 billion at the global box office and was the first Deadpool film to not go solo, sharing the screen with none other than Hugh Jackman‘s Wolverine.

After the release of Deadpool & Wolverine, Reynolds pitched an idea for the future of his character, saying, “If he comes back, it’s gonna be in someone else’s movie.” But who will Deadpool team up with next? Rumours have been swirling that Marvel may be considering slotting in a new Deadpool film between Avengers: Secret Wars and the new X-Men film.

Additionally, Reynolds shared with Hollywood Reporter that “Centring Deadpool works best if you take everything away from him and put his back against the wall. I can’t really do that again. A fourth time feels a little iterative and redundant. That doesn’t mean sacrificing fun. There is still an arc for Deadpool, which is fulfilling and powerful.”

However, if there’s one thing for sure, Reynolds is going to keep fans speculating, teasing in an interview in May last year that there would be a Marvel team-up rather than a Deadpool 4, sharing he’s writing a project involving the character and adding, “It’s an ensemble, but I like that he’s isolated.” Marvel Studios has not confirmed this project.

But, with Avengers: Doomsday on the horizon, teasing a massive team-up of Marvel heroes, there has been speculation online that Reynolds may appear in the upcoming blockbuster, which the actor has downplayed but not ruled out.
