Ryan Reynolds Teases Mysterious New Marvel Project

In an interview with Time Magazine (via The Playlist), Ryan Reynolds revealed that he is currently “writing” a mysterious MCU project. He hinted at Wade Wilson/Deadpool‘s future involvement in upcoming Marvel movies being more of a supporting role, downplaying his potential future as part of the Avengers or X-Men.
Reynolds teased his new project to Time Magazine, saying, “I’m writing a little something right now, that’s, I don’t know, it’s an ensemble…But, I like that [Deadpool] is isolated.”
“If Deadpool becomes an Avenger or an X-Man, we’re at the end. That’s wish fulfilment, and you can’t give him that.” Suggesting that Deadpool is better suited to a supporting role, allowing each character in the ensemble to get their moment in the spotlight.
If Wade were to appear in Avengers: Doomsday or Secret Wars, it’s safe to say his screentime would be kept to a minimum. Given the new quotes from Reynolds, Deadpool may not even show up at all.
This new project could likely be a potential fourth Deadpool instalment, an X-Force movie, or even a dive into something fans haven’t seen in live-action up to this point, such as the Canadian mutant team Alpha Flight. On the other hand, this could be something entirely new that no one is aware of yet.
Reynolds had previously revealed he was in the process of writing something non-Marvel related, on an idea he’d work on with Hugh Jackman and Shawn Levy, director of Deadpool and Wolverine. Levy is currently preparing to shoot Star Wars: Starfighter with Ryan Gosling, so the idea of helming Deadpool 4 may not be on his mind at this time.
