Money makes the world go round, round, round and in The House, it’s something Will Ferrell and Amy Poehler do lack the readies. When your parents loose your University fund, what can Ma and Pa do? Open your own Casino! Warner Bros. has sent us the UK trailer and watch comedic actors do what they do best…Been funny!
Like or loathe them you can’t deny Ferrell and Poehler Saturday Night Live veterans both have a distinctive style that’s won them fantastic fanbase. They have appeared before on the big screen, surprising to know that was ten years ago with Blades Of Glory. It was only the matter of times this pair would work together once again, in illegal but hilarious circumstances.
So what’s The House all about? After Scott and Kate Johansen (Will Ferrell and Amy Poehler) lose their daughter Alex’s college fund, they become desperate to earn it back so she can pursue her dream of attending a university. With the help of their neighbour Frank (Jason Mantzoukas), they decide to start an illegal casino in the basement of his house.
There are no complexities when it comes to the premise of this movie and when it’s a comedy that’s a good thing. It’s a totally bonkers premise but our comedic duo are no Robert DeNiro and Sharon Stone even if our director Andrew J.Cohen (debut movie from Bad Neighbour movie writer) may want us to believe it is. Don’t get us wrong this isn’t bad and there seems to be a reference to the Martin Scorsese classic too. The trailer doesn’t show off a lot of the humour, however Ferrell and Poehler are comedy giants and the pair have a wealth of experience to pull this one off. It’s early days, so there will be another trailer or two to come which might give us a better insight into the comedy on offer.
The House will be with us in UK&Ireland from 30th June 2017. Co-starring Nick Kroll, Allison Tolman, Michaela Watkins, Ryan Simpkins, Jessie Ennis, Rob Huebel and Cedric Yarbrough.
