Rising stars of 2014 (How I Live Now Feature)

George Mackay has received a BAFTA nomination for his breakthrough role in this year’s coming of age film, HOW I LIVE NOW, to celebrate the home entertainment release this February we have put together our own list of breakout stars set to explode into film this year.

George Mackay

Cast as ‘Curly’ one of the lost boys in Peter Pan aged 8, George Mackay has gone on to star in The Boys are Back with Clive Owen and this year is nominated for an EE BAFTA Rising Star Award. In his latest film How I Live Now George plays protagonist Eddie who is fighting for love and survival in the massive drama. He is one to watch!

Saorise Ronan

Irish gem Saorise Ronan has become an international star since her role in Hanna, going from strength to strength in The Lovely Bones and The Host. She brilliantly takes the lead in Kevin Macdonald’s apocalyptic tale How I Live Now as strong and independent Daisy and this year is also set to appear in The Grand Budapest Hotel.

Will Poulter

Funny guy Will Poulter has shot to fame this year after starring alongside Jason Sudiekis and Jennifer Aniston in the massive tongue in cheek comedy We’re The Millers.

Tom Holland

Starring in Academy Award and BAFTA nominated film The Impossible, as eldest son Lucas alongside Naomi Watts and Ewan McGregor, Tom stars as boisterous Isaac in How I Live Now and is set to star alongside Chris Hemsworth and Ben Whishaw in In The Heart of The Sea.

Lupita Nyong’o

Lupita Nyong’o made a stunning feature debut as Patsey, in Steve McQueen’s unflinchingly brutal 12 Years a Slave. This breakthrough performance was honoured with the New Hollywood Award and helped to cement her place on Variety’s admired annual 10 actors to watch list giving her a spot on 2014’s rising stars.

Dane Dehaan 

Dane Dehaan featured in Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln, starred opposite Ryan Gosling in The Place Beyond the Pines and was recently seen in Kill Your Darlings opposite Daniel Radcliffe. Next summer, Dane will line up alongside Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, as Peter Parker’s old friend Harry Osborn.

Léa Seydoux 

Léa Seydoux is a young actress with an enviable array of accolades from French cinema and television. Now she’s gaining worldwide attention for her roles in high-profile international films, including Quentin Tarantino’s Inglorious Bastards, Ridley Scott’s Robin Hood and Woody Allen’s Midnight in Paris. This year, Léa shared the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival alongside director Abdellatif Kechiche and co-star Adele Exarchopoulos, for her intense and powerful performance in Blue is the Warmest Colour.

  1. i am looking forward to seeing how i live now they look like a great bunch of up coming actors and there is just so many films i want to watch there never seems enough time in the day

    1. Hi Helen I enjoyed How I Live Now, it isn’t perfect however it’s an young adult story and compared to YA stories that have been and gone it’s one of the better ones, its like an indie YA Alternative which is good as it attempts to be different and does it with some success, all the young actors did extremely well
