Ramin Bahrani‘s upcoming prison drama Last Meals starring Mads Mikkelsen has added Tessa Thompson and Michael Shannon to it’s cast.

The film reunites Shannon with Bahrani following their acclaimed collaborations on 99 Homes and HBOโ€™s Fahrenheit 451. Shannon also stars in Bahraniโ€™s upcoming Vegas: A Love Story, currently in post-production.

Here’s the full synopsis…

Synopsis |In LAST MEALS, Walter has fallen far from the heights of his former career. Now working on death row, he prepares the final meals requested by condemned prisoners. His carefully controlled existence is disrupted by Reed (Holbrook), an inmate who refuses both food and the time Walter attempts to give him.

As Walter confronts Reed, an unexpected and deeper connection develops between the two men, and Walter begins to believe Reed may be innocent. Their growing bond drives Walter to uncover the truth.

Hannah (Thompson), a local food critic with greater journalistic ambitions, finds renewed purpose in Walter and Reedโ€™s story. Initially challenging Walterโ€™s ego and exposing his flaws, she ultimately becomes a crucial ally.

Together, Walter, Reed and Hannah embark on a journey of guilt, reconciliation and justice. As their efforts capture national attention amid a heated presidential campaign and place Reedโ€™s plight in the spotlight, Walter faces a life-defining choice: pursue a second chance at career glory or risk everything to fight for something that truly matters.

Last Meals is set to start production sometime in the Autumn.
