Peter Strickland’s Flux Gourmet First Trailer Is An ‘Smorgasbord Of Culinary Horrors’

A scene from Flux Gourmet

After haunting that red dress in Fabric, Peter Strickland is ready to take us on another sensory overload in Flux Gourmet. Bankside Films are teasing us all with the film’s First Trailer that looks like an ‘Smorgasbord Of Culinary Horrors‘.

The film stars Asa Butterfield and Gwendoline Christie , are they starring in a thriller or a horror? Like any Peter Strickland film nothing is straightforward, looks very much in vein of his fabulous The Berberian Sound Studio. This has all his trademarks you expect from his films with this one connecting art, personal frustrations, food allergies and gastrointestinal disorders. Through a ‘food collective’ who cannot decide their name nor can some of it’s members work together as they battle power struggles.

It’s time to stab cabbages with all kinds of unsavoury weapons, squash watermelons in the name of art. It’s arthouse cinema, expect the unexpected and sign us up!

A sonic collective who can’t decide on a name takes up a residency at an institute devoted to culinary and alimentary performance. The members Elle di Elle, Billy Rubin and Lamina Propria are caught up in their own power struggles, only their dysfunctional dynamic is furthermore exacerbated when they have to answer to the institute’s head, Jan Stevens. With the various rivalries unfolding, Stones, the Institute’s ‘dossierge’ has to privately endure increasingly fraught stomach problems whilst documenting the collective’s activities.

Upon hearing of Stones’s visits to the gastroenterologist, Dr Glock, Elle coerces him into her performances in a desperate bid for authenticity. The reluctant Stones puts up with the collective’s plans to use his condition for their art whilst Jan Stevens goes to war with Elle over creative differences.

The film also stars Ariane Labed, Fatma Mohamed, Makis Papadimitriou, Leo Bill, and Richard Bremmer.

Flux Gourmet doesn’t have a UK distributor just yet, Bankside Films are handling the sales. In the U.S IFC Films will release the film in the U.S, with the film getting it’s world premiere at Berlin Film Festival from 11th February.
