Awkwafina and John Cena drive for their lives in Jackpot

What happens when you cross The Heat with The Purge? Answer Paul Feig’s new action comedy Jackpot starring Awkwafina and John Cena, Prime Video have released the ‘unfunny’ official Trailer.

We all dream of one day possibly winning the lottery. Enough money to live a comfortable life, what if winning the Lottery could lose you your life? Feig’s new film Jackpot sees Lottery winners taking the money and going on the run! Katie (Awkwafina) lives in the near future just moved to Los Angeles and wins the Californian Grand Lottery. She must survive until sundown to win, if you kill the winner YOU Win. Cue amateur lottery protection agent Noel Cassidy (John Cena) who will do everything to protect Katie.

There was a time some people believed Paul Feig made funny films like The Heat and Spy. How the mighty have fallen, this looks a generic mess and has no funny bone to offer…

In the near future, a ‘Grand Lottery’ has been newly established in California – the catch: kill the winner before sundown to legally claim their multi-billion dollar jackpot. When Katie Kim (Awkwafina) moves to Los Angeles, she mistakenly finds herself with the winning ticket. Desperate to survive the hordes of jackpot hunters, she reluctantly joins forces with amateur lottery protection agent Noel Cassidy (John Cena) who will do everything in his power to get her to sundown in exchange for a piece of her prize. However, Noel must face off with his slick rival Louis Lewis (Simu Liu), who also seeks to collect Katie’s commission at all costs. JACKPOT! is directed by Paul Feig and written by Rob Yescombe.

The only redeeming factor for this mess is it’s on Prime Video. No need to leave your home and you can watch Jackpot globally  from 15th August. The film also stars Simu Liu, Ayden Mayeri, Seann William Scott, Dolly de Leon, Donald Elise Watkins, and Sam Asghari.
