Patrick Schwarzenegger & Phoebe Dynevor To Star In Beach Read
According to Deadline, Patrick Schwarzenegger and Phoebe Dynevor have joined the upcoming adaptation of Beach Read, a 2020 bestselling novel from Emily Henry.
The book is a romantic comedy following the story of January Andrews, who is a successful romance novelist struggling with grief and writerโs block after her fatherโs death. While spending the summer in his Michigan beach house to prepare it for sale, she unexpectedly reconnects with Gus Everett, an author with whom she used to compete in college. When we meet them, they’re both creatively stuck, but soon agree to a writing challenge over the summer where they swap literary genres whilst also promising that there will be no romance between them.
It is widely believed that the search for an actor to play Gus was quite an extensive process, which took the casting team many months. At one point, Schwarzenegger was viewed as a dark horse candidate, but his tape and chemistry read with Dynevor ended up blowing everyone away!
This is not the first Emily Henry book to be adapted, with People We Meet on Vacation recently being released by Netflix. Yulin Kuang, who co-wrote that film, will direct and write the Beach Read adaptation. Neal H. Moritz will produce via Original Films, and Karina Rahardja will exec produce. Sarah Shepard and Catherine Hughes are overseeing for 20th Century Studios. The literary affairs team, led by Clare Reeth, spearheaded efforts to land the rights for the book.
The casting continues a bit of a hot streak for Schwarzenegger, who has also recently been cast opposite Margaret Qualley in the upcoming Amazon AGM Studios film Love of Your Life. He was also recently in the third season of Emmy-winning series The White Lotus, having also been in Gen V, The Terminal List and The Staircase.
There is currently no release date for Beach Read. We will update when we have more!
