First trailer arrives for Opus, the new A24 horror starring Ayo Edebiri and John Malkovich

A woman keeps her wits about her amongst the horror

Ahead of its debut at this month’s Sundance Film Festival, A24 has released the first trailer for its latest horror endeavour, Opus, which hits cinemas in the US this March.

The Bear star Ayo Edibiri leads the film as a young writer invited to a remote location where a legendary pop star (John Malkovich) resides, despite being declared missing for almost three decades. Surrounded by the star’s cult of sycophants and intoxicated journalists, she finds herself in the middle of his twisted plan. Think of it as a modern-day horror thriller that takes in all the fun and frolics – and fiendish goings-on – in the world of celebrity and Hollywood. And, judging by the trailer, it will be another huge success for the distributor, who go from strength to strength.

The film is the debut of writer-director Mark Anthony Green, and co-stars Juliette Lewis (Natural Born Killers), Amber Midthunder (Prey), Stephanie Suganami (Power Book II: Ghost), Young Mazino (Beef) and Tatanka Means (Killers of the Flower Moon). Judging by the trailer, this looks set to continue A24’s impressive 2024, where the independent distributor scored success with We Live in Time, Heretic, Sing Sing, and Civil War, to name a few.

Opus is due in US cinemas on March 14th with a UK release still TBC.
