Based on Irvine Welsh’s equally Filthy book Filth, about Bruce Roberston (McAvoy), a foul mouthed drug taking sex mad corrupt bigoted cop. Bruce has been enlisted to solve a brutal murder a case that will help get that promotion he desires and will do anything to make sure he’ll get it including beating his partner Ray Lennox (Jamie Bell) to that elusive promotion.
When it comes film adaptations of Irvine Welsh’s books they are all going to be based on the success of Trainspotting, so an equally exciting film is overdue. Potentially Filth maybe that film hardcore fans have been waiting for with laughs coming in places that would have your granny choking on her mid afternoon snack of tea and scones. Would you ever see Professor X photocopying his privates? Well as you watch the trailer you’ll see why he does it and Eddie Marsan rubbing his nipples? I think you should keep your answer to yourself in the sake of your own sanity. As we said yesterday we caught a preview of the film on Monday but you’ll have to wait a little while longer but with a great assembled cast in place Filth potentially could be a godsend to Irvine Welsh book fans!
Filth will be unleashed in UK&Irish cinemas on 2 different dates. First in Scotland 27th September then the rest of the UK on 4th October. The film also stars Jim Broadbent, Imogen Poots, Jim Broadbent, Eddie Marsan, Martin Compston and Kate Dickie.
Synopsis
Scheming Bruce Robertson (James McAvoy), a bigoted and corrupt policeman, is in line for a promotion and will stop at nothing to get what he wants. Enlisted to solve a brutal murder and threatened by the aspirations of his colleagues, including Ray Lennox (Jamie Bell), Bruce sets about ensuring their ruin, right under the nose of unwitting Chief Inspector Toal. As he turns his colleagues against one another by stealing their wives and exposing their secrets, Bruce starts to lose himself in a web of deceit that he can no longer control. His past is slowly catching up with him, and a missing wife, a crippling drug habit and suspicious colleagues start to take their toll on his sanity. The question is: can he keep his grip on reality long enough to disentangle himself from the filth?
