The Death God is finally here.
Ahead of August’s big release Netflix has released a new full trailer for Adam Wingard‘s Death Note, the live-action version of the popular Japanese Manga/Animation. Want to know more about this killer notebook?Intoxicated by the power of a supernatural notebook, a young man begins killing those he deems unworthy of life.
The big attraction of the notebook in Death Note is The Death God Ryuk which this trailer finally introduces compared to the teaser we got in March.Ryuk appears to the notebook holder in the way Frank the giant rabbit from Donnie Darko appeared to Donnie. If your new to the manga or know the name but don’t know much else about it, this trailer does a decent job setting things up. You really get a sense of fear and dread and the trailer also delivers a good tease on the vision Wingard has for the movie too. However, like Ghost In The Shell, this has had its ‘White Wash’ critics but the movie appears to be set in an American city. In the new Featurette below Adam Wingard explains his inspiration behind the movie…
Based on the famous Japanese manga written by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata, Death Note follows a high school student who comes across a supernatural notebook, realising it holds within it a great power; if the owner inscribes someone’s name into it while picturing their face, he or she will die. Intoxicated with his new godlike abilities, the young man begins to kill those he deems unworthy of life.
The Netflix original film is directed by Adam Wingard (Blair Witch, You’re Next) and stars Nat Wolff (Paper Towns), Margaret Qualley (The Leftovers), Lakeith Stanfield (Get Out), Paul Nakauchi (Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End), Shea Whigham (American Hustle) and Willem Dafoe (Spider-Man) as the voice of Ryuk.
Death Note will premiere exclusively on August 25th to Netflix members worldwide, including the UK and Ireland.
