Another week gone, another weekend on the horizon. If all you’re planning on a lazy weekend, or simply searching for something to watch tonight, we have combed Netflix to come up with some options for you.

Nurse Jackie

Nurse Jackie sees Edie Falco play a no-nonsense ER nurse, who also happens to be addicted to same the drugs she administers to patients. Falco is superb as the busy nurse who tries to keep her secret from her family and colleagues, whilst working in a highly stressful position. Although the subject matter is pretty serious, Nurse Jackie has a fantastic line-up of oddball supporting characters that balance out the drama brilliantly, making the series more of a dark comedy.

Hannah and Her Sisters

hannah and her sistersPutting aside his classics, Annie Hall and Manhattan, Hannah and Her Sisters is considered to be one of Woody Allen’s best films. Telling the story of Hannah (Mia Farrow) and her problematic family during Thanksgiving. It starts when her husband Elliot (Michael Caine) falls in love with her sister Lee (Barbara Hershey), and her ex-husband Mickey (Woody Allen) rekindles his romance with her other sister Holly (Dianne Wiest). Not as comedic as some of his other films (although that’s not to say it’s not funny), Hannah and Her Sisters has touches of a deeper Allen, and is as thoughtful as it is funny.

Tracks

tracksMia Wasikowska is an actress who has been quietly brilliant for a long time now. In the past couple of years she has been part in some of the most critically acclaimed films that have been released, including Maps to the Stars, The Kids are Alright, The Double, and Only Lovers Left Alive without putting a foot wrong. Although in nearly all of those films she has been a supporting character, in Tracks she is without a doubt the star of the show. The film, based on a true story, follows Robyn (Wasikowska) as she embarks on an epic 1,700 mile trek on camels, across the Australian deserts, with a National Geographic photographer (Adam Driver) documenting her journey.

The Secret in Their Eyes

secret in their eyesThe Secret in Their Eyes is an excellent Argentine film that walked away with the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar in 2010. Unfortunately, an entirely unnecessary American remake starring Julia Roberts is currently being made, due for release later in the year. The film focuses on a retired legal counselor who is writing a novel to try to gain closure on one of his old, unresolved, homicide cases. Mostly set in the 70s through flashbacks, The Secret in Their Eyes is a completely gripping crime film, where you are routing for the, sometimes likeable, lead to solve the crime. The film is worth seeing, solely for a truly incredibly tracking shot at a real football game alone. I urge you to watch this before the American remake is released and I promise you will not be disappointed.
