He has been teasing for a while with his concept art for his vision for Ridley Scott‘s Alien and now seems those unofficial “mental Strolls” are becoming ‘official’ As he will be director for Alien 5.
According to Variety the District 9 film maker has been in talks to be the 20th Century Fox Pictures and they state the deal is now closed with the director announcing the news via his instagram account.…”Um… So I think it’s officially my next film. #alien“.
Blomkamp has openly mentioned he has been talking about making a Alien 5 film and the fact Ripley herself Sigourney Weaver has mentioned she would be up for some more Xenomorph ass-kicking. Despite Weaver saying she would be game for starring in the movie at this early stage there is no confirmation she will star in it.
The first question many fans of the franchise may ask, what will the film be about and will it connect in anyway to Prometheus 2? There is no indication however the report does say it will take years after the Prometheus sequel and in no way will clash making both will be standalone movies. Ridley Scott will produce this new movie which hasn’t made it clear if it will be another sequel or a reboot starting from scratch.
Whilst Fox hasn’t officially yet confirmed this gossip you could say was a little naive for Blomkamp to announce before the studio. Long running Franchises returning for another movie haven’t had the best of reputations however when a director in his spare time create visual that impresses the protagonist of the franchise it’s worth seeing what the filmmaker can deliver.
No release date has been set for Alien 5 but Neill Blomkamp‘s next film will be Chappie which will be released in UK&Ireland on 6th March starring Hugh Jackman and Sharlto Copely.
