Native American Actors Walk Off Adam Sandler’s Latest Film Ridiculous 6
Adam Sandler and comedy these days are loss/loss combination, its been anything but funny but offensive we’re moving into new territory. In his latest attempt to go on holiday to make a new film Vulture are reporting 6 Native American actors have walked off the set of Ridiculous 6.
Indian Country have said the film’s cultural advisor plus the actors have taken issue to the script Sandler and his regular co-writer Tim Herlihy had written. They describe the script as insulting, disrespectful to their culture with female characters called ‘No Bra’ or ‘Beaver’s Breath’, most off all it was a misrepresentation of the actors culture. It appears that Sandler & Co did’nt consult the advisor.
Ridiculous 6 is apparently based around the classic Western Magnificent 7 , with Sandler’s twist a man who was orphaned by an Indian tribe. It’s going to be satire in the way Western cultures see Native American cultures, however your treading on thin ice as and it seems it’s been no laughing matter to those offended. Loren Anthony and Allison Young, both members of the Navajo Nation tribe, both found the whole thing a farce and raised concerns on Monday, Anthony said “Then they told me it was going to be a comedy, but it would not be racist. So I agreed to it, but on Monday, things started getting weird on the set.”
As Ridiculous 6 is to be the first exclusive Netflix Only film Sandler is making, Vulture asked the popular streaming service to comment…”The movie has ridiculous in the title for a reason: because it is ridiculous. It is a broad satire of Western movies and the stereotypes they popularized, featuring a diverse cast that is not only part of — but in on — the joke.”
To many actually seeing any Adam Sandler film in a cinema some people find offensive but to offend a culture and to ask them to ridicule themselves is wrong. It’s becoming harder and harder to remember Adam Sandler appeared in Punch Drunk Love making it virtually impossible to to think will we ever see that level of credibility again.
