Murder, She Wrote Movie Reboot Confirmed By Jamie Lee Curtis
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight (via Deadline), Jamie Lee Curtis (Freakier Friday, Halloween Ends) confirmed that Universal Pictures are officially moving ahead with a reboot of the beloved murder mystery show Murder, She Wrote, with her fully on board for the project set to start up soon.
It was reported in December that Curtis was in talks to star in a Murder, She Wrote movie at Universal, which would see her taking over the role of Jessica Fletcher, who was famously played by the late Angela Lansbury.
She confirmed to Entertainment Tonight that, “Oh, it’s… happening.” Curtis went on to mention, “We’re a minute away, but yeah, [I’m] very excited. Very excited. But I’m tamping down my enthusiasm until we start shooting. I have a couple of other things to hustle, but then I’ll get to enjoy that work.”
The movie will be written by Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo, best known for penning Dumb Money and Orange is the New Black, with Phil Lord, Chris Miller and Amy Pascal producing the project.
The original Murder, She Wrote ran for 12 seasons from 1984 to 1996. Lansbury won four Golden Globes and received multiple Emmy nominations over the show’s run and reprised the role of mystery writer Jessica Fletcher in four TV movies. The CBS series became one of the most successful and longest-running shows in TV history, meaning the upcoming movie and Curtis will have some big shoes to fill.
Lee Curtis returns in Freakier Friday, in cinemas August 8th, alongside Lindsay Lohan in the hotly anticipated sequel two decades in the making. Stay tuned for our review soon!
