Boutique distributor and streaming service MUBI have released the official Trailer for Elizabeth Sankey‘s documentary Witches.
Witches is a deeply personal film which explores the compelling connection between postpartum
mental health illnesses and the history and portrayal of witches throughout pop culture.

The film features interviews with medical professionals, historians, and fellow sufferers, offering a multifaceted perspective on how women with mental health issues have been stigmatised and misunderstood over time, while creating her own coven of women to reclaim their stories.

In this personal and intimate film, writer-director Elizabeth Sankey uses her own story of being
admitted to a psychiatric ward after the birth of her son to explore the unexpected yet compelling
connections between perinatal mental health and the history and portrayal of witches in western society and pop culture. Using clips of cinema’s witches to illustrate her own experience and those of fellow sufferers, alongside interviews with medical professionals and academics, Sankey creates her own spell book for all to use.
