MOVIE OF THE WEEK & 11TH DECEMBER NEW RELEASES
ShareFriday is here again and we’re 7 days closer to James Cameron Avatar, so what’s cooking this week? We have Angry little boy sent to bed with no supper but suddenly is an king of a land of big furryball monsters, Captain Kirk in Plagued America in the movie that possibly could be the base of Zombieland minus the comedy and twinkies. Colourful ballet shoes in a classic comeback, your mum would kill if you never got your bed made up and he aint my dad he’s just mums new boyfriend who you dont want near you or mum.
So there’s no guessing what this weeks (and next weeks) Movie of the week? it’s WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE created by Spike Jonze. Based on the classic Maurice Sendak Children’s book of the same name. If you watched any of the featurettes on the trailers pages you would know the Sendak hard an hard time for libaries to accept his book but only after the libarians opened there eyes they noticed the kids of that generation loved the book and from there the rest is now history. Like many great movies there’s a great/good director behind it and spike jonze has spent about the last 5-6 years of his life trying to bring the magic of the 2000 word book onto the big screen and from reading and listening to the reviews from stateside you can say he has mastered it .
Many peoplehave question whom the target audience of the movie really is, it’s kids but kids of all ages possibly more the big kids. When I mean big kids I’m talking the adults in 30-40’s age group as this was the age group that has grown up with book. I also see alot of respect and homeage to the Frank Oz/Jim Henson childrens tv/movies of the 1980’s ala Muppets, Dark Crystal, Never Ending story, its the design and look of the wild things. Whatever age you are you will be treated to a modern, refreshing, stylish movie letting adults connect once again with their inner again plus hear a cool indie soundtrack/score.
As for The rest of the movies the only one worth a mention is Carriers with Chris Pine who recently played a young James T Kirk in the recent Star Trek reboot, Blind dating and soon to play Jack Ryan. It doesnt look fantastic but will just do the job and entertain you just.

WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE (PG)

An adaptation of Maurice Sendak’s legendary children’s story in which Max, a disobedient little boy, is sent to bed by his mother without any supper. Feeling hurt and unloved, he channels his anger, and instead of continuing his mischievious antics in his room, he creates his own imaginary world which includes a forest, a massive ocean and a small boat, which he uses to sail away to a land inhabited by monsters – Wild Things – who crown him king.
