Meryl Streep In Talks To Join Greta Gerwig’s Narnia Movie
Greta Gerwig‘s upcoming movie adaptation of The Chronicles of Narnia for Netflix may have a new cast member in the form of three-time Oscar winner Meryl Streep, according to a report from Nexus Point News (via ComingSoon).
Streep has potentially been offered the role of Aslan, who was last voiced by Liam Neeson in the Disney movies. Aslan is a pivotal character in the series, residing as King of Beasts throughout all of Narnia. Aslan will be female in the upcoming movie but the report does not offer any further information on the direction taken for the character or the project as a whole
Plot details for this new Narnia movie currently remain under wraps. No casting has been officially announced, but it has been reported that Daniel Craig has been offered to join the project. Charli XCX is also in talks to potentially play the White Witch.
Over her career, Streep has won three Oscars, eight Golden Globes and three Emmy Awards as well as many more. She is best known for her roles in The Devil Wars Prada, Mamma Mia! and Doubt, amongst many others and has recently appeared in Hulu/ Disney+ comedy-drama Only Murders in the Building.
Gerwig has become well-established in recent years as a director with films such as Lady Bird, Little Women and the smash-hit Barbie. She also worked on the scripts for movies like 2012’s Frances Ha and 2015’s Mistress America, both of which were directed by her now husband Noah Baumbach.
Greta Gerwig’s Narnia will get a two-week worldwide IMAX run in November 2026, followed by a Netflix release in Christmas the same year.
