Some say there’s going to be a worldwide economic crisis and Matthew McConaughney must see this coming. After his uprising in the Free State Of Jones now he wants to strike it rich in Stephen Gaghan‘s Gold. He’s a modern day hustler, modern day dreamer and looking at the film’s UK Trailer he might just strike Oscar gold too!
We are now moving deep into the heart of the Awards Season when the big boys and girls come out to play in the name of Oscar Glory. Many trailers we’ve seen so far look to focus on more intimate movies, this one based on true events, character chasing the ‘American Dream’ and the lead actor going through a physical transformation. It’s ticking the boxes as well as the boxes who love the pursuit of me me me.
Gold is inspired by true events (the Bre-X mining scandal of 1993), Gold tells the story of Kenny Wells (McConaughey), a modern-day prospector, hustler, and dreamer, desperate for a lucky break. Left with few options, Wells teams up with an equally luckless geologist to execute a grandiose, last-ditch effort: to find gold deep in the uncharted jungle of Indonesia.
If you watched the American version of this trailer released last month the new UK version we have today reveals more of the movie’s basic storyline. If you loved Humphrey Bogart’s The Treasure of the Sierra Madre you’re going to love this one with a slice of The Wolf Of Wall Street for good measure. McConaughney has gained a lot of wait for this role and after seeing him in Dallas Buyers Club then watch this, You will notice him. A long long way away from his rom-com days and thankfully now for the better.
Gold doesn’t have a UK&Ireland release date yet, so don’t be surprised if it’s early 2017 if you’re in the USA it will be 25th December. The film also stars Édgar Ramírez, Bryce Dallas Howard, Timothy Simons, Toby Kebbell, Corey Stoll, Bruce Greenwood, Stacey Keach, and Macon Blair.
