Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio Set To Reunite On Devil In The White City
Deadline is reporting the Devil in the White City film is being revived by 20th Century.
This is the next chapter in a long and twisty road to bring Erik Larson’s bestselling non-fiction book Devil in the White City: Murder, Magic and Madness at the Fair That Changed America to the big screen. The film rights to the book were purchased by DiCaprio back in 2010. Since then an adaptation of the book has been shopped around at studios and streamers, previous talks involved a film at Paramount, and a high-budget Hulu TV adaptation.
This most recent iteration of the project would be in partnership with 20th Century Pictures. Leonardo DiCaprio is in talks to star and Martin Scorsese is in talks to direct. The two have collaborated on numerous projects including The Departed, The Wolf of Wall Street, and most recently Killers of the Flower Moon, which was nominated for 10 Academy Awards.
DiCaprio and Scorsese would also produce the feature alongside Stacey Sher, Rick Yorn, and Jennifer Davisson. Reportedly there is no script in place. However, a description of Larson’s book is as follows:

Holmes, a handsome doctor with intense blue eyes, who used the attraction of the great fair and his own devilish charms to lure scores, perhaps hundreds, of young women to their deaths. And while Burnham overcame politics, infighting, personality clashes and Chicago’s infamous weather to transform the swamps of Jackson Park into the greatest show on Earth, Holmes built his own edifice. He called it the World’s Fair Hotel. In reality it was a torture palace, a gas chamber, a crematorium.”
