Margaret Qualley and Emma Mackey circling Greta Gerwig’s Narnia movie

Greta Gerwig’s upcoming Netflix adaptation of The Chronicles of Narnia was said to have drawn the attention of Charli XCX. According to a recent report from The Insneider (via Dark Horizons), the musician is out and Gerwig is now considering more established big-screen performers.
Rumour has it that Margaret Qualley and Emma Mackey are circling Netflix’s new Narnia project. Qualley was recently seen in the horror hit The Substance (2024) while Mackey appeared in Gerwig’s blockbuster smash Barbie (2023). Meryl Streep and Daniel Craig are also rumoured to be in the running for critical roles, with Streep potentially playing Aslan the lion.
Gerwig is said to be adapting C.S. Lewis’s novel The Magician’s Nephew. It was Lewis’s fifth published Narnia book, but the first one chronologically in the classic series. The story examines the origins of critical Narnia iconography, including the lamp post and the White Witch, Jadis.
Lewis’s Chronicles of Narnia saga has already been treated to several big-screen adaptations: Andrew Adamson adapted The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe in 2005 and Prince Caspian in 2008.
Since the release of The Voyage of the Dawn Treader in 2010, the Narnia series has been on ice. Netflix is hoping that Gerwig’s pedigree and the revered source material will help kick-start a new franchise.
The movie will begin shooting this summer ahead of a Thanksgiving 2026 IMAX release.
