We are entering the period of the year when the big players come out to play and tease on who should be fighting for the awards when 2017 arrives. Come February when It’s going to be a tough choice for Academy judges and going by the UK trailer for Manchester By The Sea, it should be in contention. In this trailer, it’s a bittersweet slice of life, drama and one man’s life turned upside down, check out the trailer…
Recently just released Stateside to rave reviews Kenneth Lonergan’s  drama  looks to be one of those rare movies that looks like it will live up to the ‘critically acclaimed’ status.
In the critically acclaimed feature film from writer-director Kenneth Lonergan (You Can Count On Me, Margaret), Casey Affleck stars as Lee, a man whose sparse existence is suddenly ruptured when the death of his brother Joe (Kyle Chandler) forces him to return to the hometown he abandoned years before. Rocked by contact with his estranged ex-wife (Michelle Williams) and the revelation that Joe has made him guardian of his teenage son (Lucas Hedges), Lee is forced to face up to painful memories and new-found levels of responsibility as he reconnects with his family.
This may not be a movie that will appeal to everyone  who enjoys a visit to their local cinema. Cinephiles, cineastes  even many critics will adore this but that doesn’t mean  a cinephile who enjoys more mainstream movies won’t. The tone and pace maybe too slow for some, however, the human tragedy will hit home for many. This story is very close to my own heart and I’ve seen the stress and pressure of other family member adapting to a new life.
However, this looks like a movie the less we know about what actually happens, the better we’ll appreciate it. Storms are brewing and cinema isn’t just about Visual effects, it’s also about challenging yourself and this movie will.
Studiocanal will be releasing Manchester By The Sea in UK&Ireland from 13th January 2017.
