Magic Mike 2 To Be A Road Movie But Will Channing Tatum Direct It?

Let’s be honest Magic Mike surprised us all how well it did at the box office, critically the film overall has done fantastically well at the box office and won the the praise from majority of reviews which is a job well done for Steven Soderbergh‘s film. With the success of the film the talk of a sequel will always be on the cards and Soderbergh still planning to retire from feature films and heading over to TV Land or overall hiatus who would direct that film? Channing Tatum!
German filmsite Filmstarts are stating the film’s star and producer may take up that empty vacancy alongside his screen writing buddy Reid Carolin. Tatum has always had an ambition to further his career in film and with the actor already appeared in 3 Soderbergh films (Haywire, The Bitter Pill and Magic Mike) he has a good insight on how Soderbergh works though Tatum has his sights on the Broadway Musical version of Magic Mike leaving the door opened for another candidate. The other option possibly opened could be another person familiar to Soderbergh’s way of thinking is his long time assistant director Gregory Jacobs (Criminal).
So with a good idea who may or may not take up the director’s chair what about the potential plot? In the same interview with the German Filmsite Carolin revealed that the film may go on the road.
โYou know, we are talking a lot about it. We have a story, and it is really ridiculous and fun. Itโs a road movie sort of thing, where a bunch of strippers get back together. Itโs more of a broad comedy. I donโt know whether it will happen or not.โ
I’ve never seen Magic Mike and my source of info is what the writers at The People’s Movies have seen it told me about and to some people the sequel could be a tad unnecessary due to the fact one of the storylines was a completed. So would a follow up follow destroy the momentum, fun that Magic Mike brought? Love to know your thoughts should there be another film and Channing Tatum?
