It only takes one man to change the world and on the day Idris Elba is cancelling the apocalypse in Pacific Rim we get our first look at his next film Mandela. The face of South Africa’s anti-apartheid movement watch the first UK teaser trailer now.

Mandela is the  epic motion picture spans Mandela’s extraordinary life, from his childhood in a rural village through to his inauguration as the first democratically elected President of South Africa.

As for proper footage from the film it shows the elderly Mandela walking over the hills with children possibly his grandchildren, we don’t get any close ups of the man but a voiceover. When biopics are been made not just the look but also how close to the person the film is based on gets judged possibly more and I know a few press have criticized Elba but personally he sounds OK.

The dialogue we here is actually an extract from Mandela’s  own autobiography..“I have walked a long walk to freedom. It has been a long road, and it’s not over yet. No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin. People learn to hate. They can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart.

It’s a role we don’t usually see Elba play, it’s one the British actor has relished and has got great inspiration, it’s a change from the usual hard talking hustlers, cops and action heroes we usually see him play. You don’t realise the impact a person has on a nation until their knocking on death’s door and with the real Nelson Mandela on what is his death bed, the tension and corruption is building in South Africa, it’s worrying times ahead.

Mandela is directed by Justin Chadwick (The First GraderThe Other Boleyn Girl) and also stars Naomie Harris as Winnie Mandela, Tony Kgoroge, Riaad Moosa, Zolani Mkiva and Jamie Bartlett. The film is due a 3rd January 2014 UK release with US release on 29th November.
