The end of an era, the beginning of everything, life is unfair in the UK Trailer for Armageddon Time. After dealing with father son relationships in Ad Astra, James Gray’s new film will be deeply personal once again.
An coming-of-age story about the strength of family and the generational pursuit of the American Dream. The film is based around the filmmaker’s own childhood in 1980’s Queens New York. Banks Repeta is Paul Graff (with Jeremy Strong and Anne Hathaway asย his parents). Paul moves to a new school befriends Johnny a fellow student who finds is targeted by a racist teacher. He’s encouraged by his grandfather (Anthony Hopkins) to fight against the abuse.
This looks a poignant and reflective film. Facing the dark side of humanity at an early age, which is sometimes a good thing. This film also showcases the ramifications of Ronald Regan era as President. An odd Trailer and teases James Gray won’t shy away from any subject that mattered in the 1980’s…
Set against the backdrop of a country on the cusp of ominous sociopolitical change, Armageddon Time follows Paul Graff (Banks Repeta), a sixth grader who dreams of becoming an artist. At the same time that Paul builds a friendship with classmate Johnny (Jaylin Webb), whoโs mercilessly targeted by their racist teacher, he finds himself increasingly at odds with his parents (Jeremy Strong and Anne Hathaway), for whom financial success and assimilation are key to the familyโs Jewish-American identity. Paul feels on firmest ground with his kind grandfather (a marvelous Anthony Hopkins), whose life experiences have granted him a weathered compassion.
The film also stars Jaylin Webb, Tovah Feldshuh and Ryan Sell. Armageddon Time will be released in UK and Irish cinemas from 18th November (11th November in USA).
