Two years after making it’s world premiere at Telluride Film Festival (including UK Premiere in Glasgow), Kelly Reichardt‘s First Cow is only weeks away from it’s UK release. MUBI today have released the film’s UK Trailer, check it below.
The film is a quietly suspenseful look at male friendship and the peculiar rhythms of rural life. Set in the Pacific Northwest,ย early nineteenth century we follow a lonerย (John Magaro) and King Lu(Orion Lee). The pair attempt liveย their the best they can but not always by illegal means. A very unique film and if you like Reichardt films this one will have you grinning throughout the film…

A taciturn loner and skilled cook (John Magaro) has travelled west and joined a group of fur trappers in Oregon Territory, though he only finds true connection with a Chinese immigrant (Orion Lee) also seeking his fortune; soon the two collaborate on a successful business, although its longevity is reliant upon the clandestine participation of a nearby wealthy landownerโs prized milking cow. From this simple premise Reichardt constructs an interrogation of foundational Americana that recalls her earlier triumph Old Joy in its sensitive depiction of male friendship, yet is driven by a mounting suspense all its own.
