Jennifer Hudson Is Aretha Franklin In Respect First Trailer

2018 saw the sad death of the Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin. 2020 she will get her long overdue biopic with Respect. Jennifer Hudson will Aretha and you can watch the Teaser Trailer for the film now.
Fans of the late singer will recognise the film is named after one of her many loved songs. When you make a film about one of the most iconic musicians you have to get the actor right. From this ‘announcement’ Trailer, they have chosen well with Hudson who herself is an Oscar winner. Could we see her in the running for another?
The film will be directed by Liesl Tommy who is making her directorial feature debut. She has made a name for herself in Television/Streaming, directing episodes for The Walking Dead, Jessica Jones.
The film promises to follow the icon from her childhood days, singing in her Baptist minister father’s choir. Right through her days as an civil rights activist to becoming the icon we remember her for.
Following the rise of Aretha Franklin’s career from a child singing in her father’s church’s choir to her international superstardom, RESPECT is the remarkable true story of the music icon’s journey to find her voice.
The cast includes Forest Whitaker, Marlon Wayans, Audra McDonald, Marc Maron, Tituss Burgess, Saycon Sengbloh, Hailey Kilgore, Tate Donovan, Heather Headley, Skye Dakota Turner, and Mary J. Blige.
Respect is set for an 2020 release in the UK and Ireland. Universal Pictures still to announce exact release date.
