Cape Fear 2026 Apple trailer

Apple TV has just released the trailer for the upcoming Cape Fear series adaptation, a psychological horror thriller by creator Nick Antosca (Channel Zero and Brand New Cherry Flavour). The miniseries is based on the original John MacDonald novel, The Executioners, which was published in 1957. With Steven Spielberg and Martin Scorsese helping Antosca produce, Cape Fear stars Javier Bardem (No Country for Old Men), Amy Adams (Arrival), Patrick Wilson (The Conjuring) and CCH Pounder (Avatar).

The official premise tells us that “a storm is coming for happily married attorneys Anna and Tom Bowden when Max Cady, the notorious killer they are responsible for putting behind bars, is let out of prison — and he wants vengeance.”

Antosca’s Cape Fear is formatted into ten episodes, with the first two being immediately available to stream and the rest coming in weekly.

MacDonald’s book has been adapted twice before. First in 1962 by director J. Lee Thompson and starring Gregory Peck as Bowden and Robert Mitchum as Cady, and again in 1991 by Scorsese and starring Nick Nolte as Bowden and Robert De Niro as Cady.

Scorsese’s reindition of MacDonald’s novel is deemed as more graphic and brutal compared to Thompson’s more faithful adaptation. Antosca told Empire magazine he aimed for his version to exist in a murky grey area between the two previous adaptations.

“It’s like you’ve seen the [other versions], then went to sleep and had a nightmare about it,” he shared. “And you’re bringing your own stuff to it, and what’s in the atmosphere culturally. It’s like a nightmare remix.”

“It’s a very paranoid show,” Antosca added. “We should either feel like we’re watching, voyeuristically, or feel paranoid that we’re being watched.”

Cape Fear streams globally on Apple TV from June 5th.
